Slap-bang in the middle of July and the lack of sunshine combined with the muggy weather has certainly lost its charm.
Weather (and the environment generally) can have a huge affect on mood and while in July this is unlikely to develop into full blown Seasonal Affective Disorder, you could be forgiven for feeling a little less than blooming this week.
Essential oils influence the Limbic System – the area of your brain responsible for a whole raft of emotional responses (ever been transported back in time due to a scent? – That’s your Limbic System) and it also relates to circadian rhythms.
As such, gentle aromatherapy can stimulate the Limbic System in such a way that our mood can be elevated, energized and calmed. Suzanne Bovenizer has a much more in-depth understanding of how aromatherapy affects the Limbic System.
HappyHolisticHealth provides some great information on Circadian Rhythms and how you can manage them naturally (including the use of essential oils.)
When looking to the oils for mood management, I like to use energizing oils such as Bergamot, Wild Orange and Grapefruit. For calming moods, oils like Lavender, Frankincense, Geranium and Patchouli are excellent.
This week a 15ml bottle of Wild Orange oil (a fabulous energizer, especially when combined with a drop or two of Peppermint) is available through The Digital Panacea for the reduced price of £8 and for the rest of July, customers will receive a free 5ml bottle of Wild Orange oil with any other oil purchase. Try it for yourself and smell the sunshine!
