A short cut to contentment (or at least to escape a downward spiral to a terrible day) – is to focus on gratitude.
When you feel that everything is against you, this is obviously easier said than done, however one way to reverse a bad day is to take a moment and literally count your blessings.
Many people have already written of the benefits of a gratitude journal, however if you’re short on time it can be difficult to maintain this daily. Making a list of bullet points (aim for at least five) is easy to do within a minute, and you’ll be amazed at how many you can add when you get into the flow.
While this exercise can be great to use at the end of the day to reflect on the things you have achieved and the good things that have happened to you – the real magic occurs when this is done in the morning.
Forcing yourself to acknowledge the positive things in your life (and feel that sense of appreciation) will get you on a joyful track; getting your brain in the habit of seeking (and finding) the good things in life.
